This North African country has a beautiful culture and a rich history, and a slew of venues to choose from, from palaces to courtyards to the beach. Home to nine UNESCO World Heritage Sites, Morocco has something to offer for everyone! Morocco is definitely a country of contrasts, as evidenced by the beaches and snowcapped mountains. Having been a politically stable country for years, unlike some of the other countries in the region, the country has been a popular tourist destination for a number of years, and being so close to Europe, is a popular choice for people to buy holiday homes.
If you enjoy soaking in a rich culture steeped in years of tradition while also enjoying beautiful sights and great food, Morocco is the ideal destination for your wedding; and probably your honeymoon too!
While Kenya has a number of tourist attractions to choose from, Mombasa, especially so its Southern Coast, is definitely a favourite for those who desire a beach wedding. Encircled with gorgeous white sand and on the coast of the Indian Ocean, this is the ideal location for those who enjoy the beach and outdoor activities. Aside from the place itself, Mombasa boasts a warm, hospitable culture, and delectable cuisine with North Indian and continental influences. From a large hotel to a cosy cottage, you can take your pick of venues in this coastal town.
As an added bonus, flights into the Masaai Mara are not difficult to find, and would be a great way to celebrate your honeymoon!
New Orleans, U.S.A.
It took me only one weekend to fall in love with this city; indeed, what’s not to love? This city in southeastern Louisiana was founded in the 1700s, and has a multicultural heritage with decidedly Creole influences. With beignets, amazing seafood and po-boys, just to name a few, this city is also world-famous for its cuisine, and food lovers would have an amazing time, be it at a vendor on the street or Antoine’s. A rich history means that New Orleans has plenty of old architecture to marvel at, and the city is full of lovely aesthetic contrasts that mean a couple has hundreds (if not more) choices of venue. Vibrant nightlife, rich artwork and lovely people add to the city’s appeal; it truly has something to offer everyone!
Unless you really want to, you may want to avoid your wedding coinciding with Mardi Gras. With streets and buildings overflowing with people celebrating the carnival, it may be difficult to enjoy all that the city has to offer!
Ireland evokes a mystical atmosphere that can be attributed to its Celtic background and world-renowned beauty. With rolling green hills, beautiful cliffs, and over 300 castles dotted around the island, Ireland is definitely a picturesque location for a destination wedding. There’s plenty to do for the couple and their guests; Guinness and whiskey lovers will enjoy visiting the Guinness Storehouse and various distilleries. There’s a reason that Irish pub culture is so popular around the world!
Who wouldn’t want to get married in a land so steeped in culture, history, and beauty?
Wine Country, California, U.S.A.
Food and wine lovers, rejoice! Napa Valley and Sonoma Valley are popular wedding destinations for a reason. The beautiful landscapes, abundance of activites, and wonderful food mean that a wedding held in Wine Country will be one you both remember fondly!
There are several historical points of interest in this area too, so your venue choices are not limited. An activity we definitely recommend? Hot air ballooning over the valleys! Not only will you get to enjoy a romantic ride and wonderful views, but some creativity on your photographer’s part will mean some unique shots for your wedding album!
India is definitely a land that needs no introduction. Most of us are aware of the beautiful Taj Mahal in Agra, the lovely beaches at Goa, the scientific and artistic contributions Indians have made over the centuries, the breathtaking beauty of Kashmir and the wonderful food, just to name a few, but we’re here to add one more attraction to your list. Rajasthan is the ‘land of the maharajas’. Royalty in India also means a rich abundance of colour and tradition, and this is evident in the palaces that survive today; some of which can actually be used as your wedding venue and/or hotel!
Have you been dying to check out India and explore its rich cultural heritage? A wedding in Rajasthan will give you that opportunities along with an abundance of memories to last a lifetime!
